This fall, the Iota chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity at the University of Texas at Austin, will hold its second annual kickball tournament for charity. This annual event will be held on October 30, 2011 at the Del Valle Adult Softball Complex, benefiting the Richard Holland Scholarship Fund.
Richard Holland was a dear friend to many. He was one of our newest Active members here at UT Austin AKPsi. He was always a charming man, who could make anyone smile with the greatest ease. His passion for life was second to none, and his ability to bring out the best in everyone he encountered was extraordinary. He was truely a class act and great man. He passed away on August 30, 2011, and he will always be remembered and missed. We are hosting this tournament in his honor, and the benefits and proceeds will go toward a scholarship fund that his family has established in his name.
TOURNAMENT RULES
There will be 16 teams that will be divided into 4 groups. Each team will play 3 games within their group. The top four teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The fee is a minimum donation of $120 per team.
REGISTRATION: Space is limited to 16 teams, so register now! Games will start promptly at 2pm on October 30, 2011. The team captain must report between 1:30-1:45pm to check in. All team members must be present at the start of their first contest. Schedules will be posted on the website the week prior to the tournament.
PLAYERS PER TEAM: Teams must have at least 8 players (no more than 12). There must be no more than 11 players on the field at one time. Each team must field a minimum of 4 players of each sex at all times.
KICKBALL: Played like baseball, the object is to score more runs than the opposing team. Rules are subject to change the day of the event. All Team Captain's will be notified before the tournament start time of any changes to the official rules. All teams must abide to the referee's calls throughout the game. If there is a dispute, it will be handled accordingly.
GAMEPLAY: Regulation games last four full innings or 25 minutes, whichever comes first. In the event of a tie score at the end of the game, the game will play as such. No bouncies. A pitch that is higher than one foot at the plate, and called as such, results in a ball. The pitcher must stay behind the pitching strip until the ball is kicked. Failure to do so results in a ball. No player may field in front of the pitcher other than the catcher, and no player may advance forward the 1st-3rd base diagonal until the ball is kicked. All kicks must be made by foot. Bunting is allowed provided that the ball travels more than one foot forward of home plate. Hitting a runner with the ball above the shoulder level is not allowed. Any runner hit above the shoulders is safe and advances 1 base.
Since the complex is at a Travis County Park, there are certain rules in regards to consumption of alcohol on the premise. The rules state there is to be no public display of the consumption of alcoholic beverages, so please be smart. Intoxicated persons will not be allowed in the parks and visitors who become intoxicated will be removed from the parks. If your team loses a member due to the park rules, and your team no longer meets the criteria stated in the rules, you will be forced to forfeit and your team will be out of the tournament. If you have any questions about the rules of the game, the charity, our organization, or in general, please email Sam Copeland at johnsamcopeland@aol.com. |
